International Day for Biological Diversity

Mark your calendar: May 22 is International Day for Biodiversity!

The United Nations International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated each year on May 22nd to increase understanding, awareness, and positive action surrounding biodiversity issues.

Theme for 2021: "We’re part of the solution"

The slogan was chosen to be a continuation of the momentum that was generated last year under the over-arching theme “Our solutions are in nature”, which served as a reminder that biodiversity is the answer to several sustainable development challenges. From nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security, and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.

The CBD Secretariat is soliciting videos and written statements on the theme “We’re part of the solution” from all regions of the world with the plan to roll them out across different time zones, thereby emphasizing hope, solidarity and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with nature. If you wish to participate in this “wave of solidarity”, you can send your video message to the CBD Secretariat.

Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, IDB 2020 will be celebrated through its first ever virtual-only campaign. More information and resources are available at the Convention on Biological Diversity web site.
