International Day of Biodiversity 2021
May 22 is International Day for Biodiversity!
The United Nations International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated each year on May 22nd to increase understanding, awareness, and positive action surrounding biodiversity issues.
Theme for 2021: "We are part of the solution"
We encourage you to embrace the international day for biodiversity and use it as an opportunity to reflect on what biodiversity means to you, how it influences your life, and how you can be part of the solution.
Use #ForNature to show your support online.
From the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity:
The slogan was chosen to be a continuation of the momentum that was generated last year under the over-arching theme “Our solutions are in nature”, which served as a reminder that biodiversity is the answer to several sustainable development challenges. From nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security, and sustainable livelihoods; biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.
As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic, IDB 2021 will once again be celebrated virtually. The Secretariat is therefore soliciting videos and written statements from all regions of the world on the theme “We’re part of the solution” and what it means for each Party and for individuals. The plan is to roll these out across the different time zones on 22 May, thereby emphasizing hope, solidarity, and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with nature.
If you wish to participate in this wave of solidarity, you can send your video message to the secretariat [at] cbd.int (CBD Secretariat).
