Many businesses are discovering that biodiversity conservation can form the basis of a profitable business and can present an opportunity to further distinguish themselves from competitors.
Many Canadian businesses are leading the way by building biodiversity into their business models from production systems and supply chains to environmental management systems, social responsibility schemes and performance measurement.
In 2010 a Canadian Business and Biodiversity Council was established. The Council was initiated from recommendations by both government and industry leaders who participated in a Montreal Business and Biodiversity Conference in 2008. The Council aims to help Canada achieve its biodiversity conservation objectives by assisting Canadian businesses that are prepared to show leadership in biodiversity conservation through managing their facilities and activities in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.
